THE COUPLE Jack Brown and Lauren Ortigoza’s love story is a classic: They met in high school in their hometown of Des Plaines, but they were just friends. “We always had an eye for each other, I think,” Lauren says, and years later, they reconnected and began dating, culminating in a proposal in 2015.

THE DETAILS A year later, the couple married in an elegant yet decidedly unfussy affair. Lauren, an art director for Modern Luxury, designed the invitations and escort cards herself, and did her own makeup. She wore a strapless Enzoani gown and carried an all-white bouquet of roses. After the ceremony at Saint Martha Church, “everyone was outside clapping,” she recalls. “Never before had we felt that much love.”

THE PARTY The reception took place in a high-peaked white tent situated amid the gorgeous gardens of Wandering Tree Estate. “We wanted a laid-back lounge feel,” Lauren says, so Susan Sansweet created a decor scheme with white leather ottomans, Swarovski chandeliers and serene mixed-metal tones. When it started raining at the end of the night, guests were so relaxed and jubilant, Lauren says, “they slipped off their shoes and started dancing barefoot in the puddles! Instead of being a disaster, the rain made the night even more memorable.”
